Meet Our Team

Dr Harvey C. C. Banda
Dr. Harvey Banda is the founder and Executive Director of Migration and Society (MASO). He holds a PhD in Migration History from the Witwatersrand University in South Africa. He also holds a Master of Arts in African Social History from the University of Malawi.He has vast experience in research and surveys, having conducted several projects in Malawi. He is in charge over the strategic direction and fulfilment of the mission and vision of Migration and Society (MASO). In addition to overseeing MASO project activities, Dr. Banda also doubles as Senior Lecturer in the Department of History and Heritage Studies at Mzuzu University in Malawi.

Mr Msenga Mulungu
Mr. Msenga Mulungu is a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Humanities) from the University of Malawi. He has vast experience working with civil society organisations (2013 to the present). In addition to his current position under MASO, Mulungu also doubles as Adjunct Staff at the Catholic University in Malawi. As Projects Coordinator, he is in charge over all projects under MASO and works hand in hand with the Executive Director to ensure successful implementation of funded projects.

Kingdom Chavinda
Kingdom Chavinda holds a Diploma in Public Health Management obtained from Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) obtained in 2022. He is a Project Officer responsible for Migration-related projects. He works hand in hand with his colleagues in championing youth empowerment activities under Migration and Society. At MASO, Kingdom also assists with graphic designing.

Elizabeth Mzumara
Elizabeth Mzumara holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social work obtained in 2023. She is working as a Project Officer responsible for economic empowerment, mainly focusing on women. Currently, MASO is implementing projects in labour migration areas in Mzimba District which are aimed at empowering the female-headed households, especially where husbands are based in South Africa and hardly send financial assistance back home.

Isaac Chirambo
Mr. Isaac Chirambo holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management obtained in 2023 from the University of Livingstonia in Malawi. As Projects Officer, Isaac Chirambo is in charge over economic empowerment and environment-related projects. Migration and Society is keen on initiating projects on empowerment of communities and environmental management and sustainability.

Audrey Murphy
Audrey Murphy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (Project Management, Monitoring & Evaluation) obtained in 2023. At MASO, Audrey is a Project Officer responsible for education-related projects. She is overseeing the implementation of the Excel in Education Project. This project is currently being implemented at Thandazga Primary School on the outskirts of Mzuzu City.

a Non-Governmental Organization / Consultancy Firm that was founded in 2012 by Dr. Harvey C.C. Banda and is based in Mzuzu, northern Malawi. MASO’s target audience are the vulnerable community in Malawi’s rural and urban centers that are affected variously by both immigrations and emigration activities.
